SPIRIT, SOUL, BODY
-1st Thessalonians 5:23 states, … And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray your whole
spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ ... What an informative scripture!
This verse tells us that man is a three-part being. He is made up of:
1. SPIRIT
2. SOUL
3. BODY
-The word "spirit" comes from the Greek word "pneuma", which refers to the breath of God. This breath ( Spirit ) of God
is what enables man to become a living soul. The word "soul" comes from the Greek word "psuche", which refers to our mind,
will, and emotions. We obviously know what our body is. It is the physical part of man that houses his spirit and soul. With
this in mind, let us now attempt to understand the PROCESS of our salvation.
-Our spirit is saved as we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. This is referred to as JUSTIFICATION. Our soul is being saved
through the transforming power of God’s divine nature. This is referred to as SANCTIFICATION. Our bodies are yet to
be saved at the last trump. This is referred to as GLORIFICATION. In essence, WE ARE SAVED, WE ARE BEING SAVED, AND WE SHALL
BE SAVED! The next time someone asks you if you are saved, tell them NO! Tell them that you are in the process of God’s
salvation, which is the salvation of your spirit, soul, and body.
-This is to be seen as well in symbolic form in the Old Testament. As we study the three main feasts of the Jewish people
( PASSOVER, PENTECOST, AND TABERNACLES ), WE WILL FIND THAT THEY DO REPRESENT THE SALVATION OF OUR SPIRIT, SOUL, AND BODY.
Can we be honest enough to admit that we are God’s workmanship? Can we be honest enough to admit that we are a work
in progress? We have not yet attained to our FULL SALVATION, but we are in the PROCESS of being made in His image. Thank God
for the cross and the blood of Jesus Christ, which is saving us …
