THE LORD’S PRAYER PART 4

( Matthew 6:9-13 )

HALLOWED BE THY NAME

According to J. Preston Eby:

-"What a depth of thought, what a wealth of meaning, what a world of reality, the model prayer contains that the firstborn Son of God has given for His many brethren with the opening words, "Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name!" This is the first petition of the Lord’s prayer." ( To Be The Lord’s Prayer, J. Preston Eby )

-The word "hallowed" means: sanctified, set apart. We are to enter into prayer recognizing and sanctifying the name of our Heavenly Father. “YHWH” is a name that is usually translated as “LORD”. It is used approximately 7,000 times in the Bible, more than any other name for God. It is also referred to as the “Tetragrammaton” which means “The Four Letters” because it comes from four Hebrew letters: ( Yod, He, Waw, and He ). The four characters are the four Hebrew letters that correspond to "YHWH" and are transliterated "IAUE" or "YAHWEH". Some pronounce "YHWH" as "Jehovah", which is a form of "Yahweh" produced by blending the letters of the "Tetragrammaton" with the vowels from "ADONAI", which means “my lord” in Hebrew. We must also keep in mind that the God of the Old Testament ( "Yahweh" or "Jehovah" ) finally revealed Himself to man in the form of the SAVIOR. He did this with the name of "JESUS" ( "Iesous" ), which is of Hebrew origin "Joshua" ( "Yehowshua" ), which means "Yahweh" ( or "Jehovah" ) is salvation!

-Jesus was obviously the God of the Old Testament MANIFESTED IN THE FLESH! The name "Yahweh" ( or "Jehovah" ) means: to be, to exist, to become, the self-existent One, and independent.

-So … Let us hallow ( sanctify and set apart ) the name of our Heavenly Father. The name of "Yahweh" ( or "Jehovah" ) was manifested in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ as the SAVIOR OF THE WORLD! Our Father is the self-existent One, Who after being manifested in the flesh, did TAKE AWAY the sin of the world! Our Father is THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD!!!

-This is the reason that we should HALLOW HIS GREAT NAME! His name is worthy to be sanctified, hallowed, praised, worshipped, and adored. Jesus told us in John 17:6 that He had manifested His Father’s name to the men which were given to Him. What name did He manifest? The name of "Jesus", of course!

-Thank you Father for loving us! Thank you Father for saving us!
